Our Team in Peru
We don’t sell places we haven’t been. Our team has walked Machu Picchu at sunrise, cooked with local chefs and lingered over long lunches in the Andes, so the advice you get comes from experience.

“We’ve walked Machu Picchu at sunrise and cooked with local chefs in the Andes. When we recommend a lodge, a guide or a train, it’s because we’ve experienced Peru ourselves.”The Travel Byrds team

Need a reason to experience Peru?
Snow-capped Andes, a lost Inca citadel, one of the world’s great food scenes and the Amazon rainforest, all in a single country. Tap through to see what’s waiting for you.

The lost city of the Incas
Built around 1450 and hidden from the outside world for centuries, Machu Picchu sits on a ridge 2,430 m (7,970 ft) above sea level, wrapped in cloud forest and guarded by the peak of Huayna Picchu.
Arrive by luxury train or on foot along the Inca Trail, and let a private guide explain how the Incas built it without mortar, iron tools or the wheel.
- Timed entry and guide arranged for you
- The Hiram Bingham train or the Inca Trail
- Stay at the gates for the quietest hours

An Inca capital with colonial grace
Cusco was the heart of the Inca Empire. Today its Inca stone walls carry Spanish churches, cobbled lanes climb to the artists’ quarter of San Blas, and some of Peru’s most beautiful hotels live inside former monasteries and palaces.
Below the city, the Sacred Valley is a gentler landscape of terraced fields, weaving villages and riverside lodges: the perfect place to adjust to the altitude.
- Qorikancha, Sacsayhuamán and San Blas
- Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray and Maras
- Weaving and farm-to-table experiences

Mountains that shaped a civilization
The Andes run the length of Peru, with glaciers, turquoise lakes and peaks over 6,000 m. Andean communities still farm, weave and celebrate the way their ancestors did.
Whether you want a gentle walk, a multi-day trek with luxury lodges or the view from a train window, we’ll match the mountains to your pace.
- Lake Titicaca and Rainbow Mountain
- Lodge-to-lodge treks
- Living Andean culture

Over half the country is rainforest
Around 60% of Peru is covered by the Amazon. Fly into Puerto Maldonado for an eco-lodge in Tambopata, or Iquitos for a small-ship river cruise into the Pacaya-Samiria reserve.
Expect macaws at clay licks, giant river otters, pink river dolphins and night walks with naturalist guides, then dinner and a comfortable bed.
- Tambopata eco-lodges
- Luxury Amazon river cruises
- Easy to pair with Machu Picchu

Dry Andean days from May to September
In the Andes, the dry season runs from May to September, with sunny days and crisp nights. April, October and November are lovely shoulder months. December to March brings rain, and the Inca Trail closes every February.
Lima and the coast are sunniest from December to March, and the Amazon is warm all year.
